Background

In the UK the main factors for successful decommissioning on nuclear and defence sites involve managing the contaminated land and nuclear wastes safely, securely and cost effectively, while protecting and safeguarding the environment.

The industry aims to manage and minimise risks from low level radioactive wastes on human health and the environment. Therefore it is vital to achieve health and safety standards and good environmental performance along with effective stakeholder engagement. Sharing good practice case studies in the management ofmaterials in nuclear decommissioning are essential to ensure the successful management of this material and the challenges and opportunities that arise.

The conference

This is a one day conference with an exhibition area held at the Radisson in Manchester, on 25 May 2010. The event will focus on sustainable waste and material management in nuclear decommissioning.  It will showcase current site practices which you will be able to learn from.
